Description:

The material tension between the industrial, fossil material of coal and the noble, reflective copper creates a complex symbolism: while coal stands for the earthbound, the transient and the burden of the industrial past, copper conveys a transcendent, almost spiritual quality through its warm shine and its cultural-historical significance as one of the first metals processed by humans.

The composition is masterful in its reduction: the large black form dominates the upper part of the picture and seems to rise up against the copper sky or disappear into it. This tension between presence and dissolution, between material heaviness and ethereal lightness, gives the work its special dynamic power.

In a contemporary context, the work can also be interpreted as a reflection on ecological crises and the "cry" of nature. The use of coal, a symbol of industrialization and climate change, in conjunction with the title "World Cry" opens up a critical dimension that goes beyond the purely aesthetic effect.

Pierick's work is thus in the tradition of material and process art, but through its specific choice of materials and compositional power it develops its own contemporary position that combines ecological, cultural-historical and existential questions in an impressive formal synthesis.
