Description:

In strict reduction, a large-format composition unfolds before the viewer, the background of which is kept in shimmering gold tones. A single, precisely placed black diagonal cuts through the atmospheric surface and creates a striking counterpoint to the meditative mood of the work.

In this work, Pierick develops a remarkable material presence through the multi-layered treatment of the picture surface. The picture ground appears like an alchemical transformation - oxidized metal or aged gold - and opens up a space of contemplative depth to the viewer. The different layers and textures create a complex play of light and shadow that constantly changes depending on the viewpoint and lighting.

The minimalist imagery is in the tradition of abstract art, but breaks away from its formal rigor through the pronounced materiality of the surface. The tension between the geometric clarity of the line and the almost organic-looking materiality of the ground manifests a characteristic aspect of Pierick's artistic work: the synthesis of order and chance, of control and material dynamics.

The large-format work unfolds a contemplative power that involves the viewer in a dialogue between closeness and distance, between detail and overall effect. By reducing the work to a few, precisely placed design elements, the artist achieves a remarkable intensity of the image effect, which only becomes fully apparent after a longer period of observation.
